Dr Ole Hagen

I am a London based artist working with video, sculpture and large scale drawings. Combining found locations with constructed stage sets, masks and sculpted figures with living bodies, I produce moving images of interior spaces populated by mute characters. The videos seem to evoke a parallel reality of a metaphysical, mental or virtual kind. Camera movement explores the painterly surface and physicality of the sets while shifting between objective observation and subjective point of view. By equating the animate with the inanimate, the physical with the imaginary, a pervasive uncanny atmosphere is created that does not discriminate between either. Although the artefact of the constructed is always evident, the affective power of the imagery is no less real. The videos combine a dark psychological timbre with the comical and hyperbolic to create an imaginary world not far from our own.
